OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

(Thu, 14 Jan 2021) The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts that members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will earn about $323 billion in net oil export revenues in 2020. If realized, this forecast revenue would be the lowest in 18 years. Lower crude oil prices and lower export volumes drive this expected decrease in export revenues.

U.S. Energy Atlas

(Mon, 04 Jan 2021) The U.S. Energy Atlas is EIA’s new web-based mapping tool, which features detailed energy infrastructure and enhanced navigation and data accessibility features. The available map layers, based on EIA data, include locations of power plants, coal mines, oil and natural gas wells, pipelines, storage facilities, natural gas processing plants, refineries, and other types of energy facilities. Some of the most notable new features include new energy infrastructure maps and disruptions maps and an open data catalogue. The U.S.

International Energy Portal updates

(Wed, 23 Dec 2020) The International Energy Portal now includes complete annual datasets through 2018, and many annual datasets are available for 2019 as well. In addition, EIA has begun releasing annual data when available, rather than at the end of each year. You can also now access monthly updates for petroleum and other liquids production for all countries and for energy consumption for countries within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The Year in Review

(Thu, 17 Dec 2020) EIA recently released a retrospective list of our top 10 notable accomplishments for 2020, highlighting our products and programs from this year.

Trends in Commercial Whole-Building Sensors and Controls

(Tue, 15 Dec 2020) Sensor and control innovations can lower the demand for end-use energy services such as space heating, space cooling, ventilation, and lighting in buildings. Trends in Commercial Whole-Building Sensors and Controls provides a technical overview of key sensor and control technologies and projects the share of commercial floorspace incorporating these technologies, along with estimated energy impacts, through 2050. The report also recommends an approach for modeling sensors and controls in the National Energy Modeling System.

EIA to Change Web Addresses of Key Information Releases to HTTPS

(Tue, 08 Dec 2020) As of December 28, 2020, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will no longer support HTTP requests for our products. The Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) and the Weekly Petroleum Status Report (WPSR) will change from HTTP to HTTPS web addresses to ensure the security and timeliness of these releases.

Modeling Distributed Generation in the Buildings Sectors

(Wed, 02 Dec 2020) Modeling Distributed Generation in the Buildings Sectors describes EIA’s approach to modeling distributed electricity generation for the Annual Energy Outlook (AEO) and discusses AEO2020 modeling results. The paper details EIA’s data sources and assumptions for historical capacity, costs, and government incentives and explains how EIA projects future capacity development and generation based on this information. It then provides a scenario analysis of results across different side cases (sets of assumptions) in AEO2020.
