The Year in Review

(Tue, 19 Dec 2023) We released a list of our notable accomplishments for 2023, highlighting our products and programs from this year.

U.S. Lower 48 states shale gas and oil plays map

(Mon, 18 Dec 2023) We updated the Lower 48 states shale and tight formation oil and natural gas plays map. This map is based on recent well-level data, including formation depth and reservoir properties, along with hydrocarbon production, and shows major play extends in the key producing basins in the Lower 48 states.

CBECS all-electric building estimates

(Mon, 18 Dec 2023) We have released a new set of data tables for commercial buildings using only electricity for certain end uses. These estimates may serve as a baseline for electrification policies and to understand the market for all-electric building technologies and equipment.

Emerging Hydrocarbon Products in Africa Country Analysis Brief

(Fri, 08 Dec 2023) Africa has significant hydrocarbon resources, with basins that are considered underexplored and that may hold large resources that could be commercially viable. This briefing will focus on Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Mauritania, Senegal, and Mozambique. These countries have uncovered hydrocarbon discoveries that may be potentially significant and commercially viable, which has led to increased investor interest in upstream exploration and development in their respective territories.

Brazil Country Analysis Brief

(Mon, 04 Dec 2023) Brazil's energy mix is diverse; hydropower, fossil fuels, biofuels, wind energy, and solar power all make significant contributions. Brazil's total energy production increased by an average annual growth rate of 1.5% from 2011 to 2021. Petroleum and other liquids accounted for most of the energy production increase, followed by natural gas. Brazil's energy production in 2021 accounted for 2.0% of global production and 48.8% of South America's total.

How do different crude oil prices affect U.S. crude oil and natural gas production?

(Thu, 16 Nov 2023) The November edition of EIA's Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) now includes analysis of three crude oil price scenarios and the resulting effects on drilling activity and U.S. crude oil and natural gas production. In particular, the analysis highlights the Permian production region of western Texas and eastern New Mexico, which is the most prolific crude oil production region in the United States and the source of most of the country's associated natural gas production.

China Country Analysis Brief

(Tue, 14 Nov 2023) China was the most populous country in 2022. However, with a declining population for the first time since 1961, China will be overtaken by India in 2023, according to United Nations estimates. China was the largest energy producer and consumer in the world in 2021. Primary energy production grew by more than 6% in 2021.

Winter 2023–24 Global LNG Analysis

(Mon, 06 Nov 2023) Relatively full natural gas inventories in the United States and Europe as well as expanded global export and import capacity for liquefied natural gas (LNG) have improved the likelihood that supply will be sufficient to meet demand in global natural gas markets as we enter the upcoming 2023–24 winter season (November–March). However, risks to this balance are associated with possible extreme weather and supply issues.

Monthly Solar Photovoltaic Module Shipments Report

(Mon, 16 Oct 2023) This report contains monthly summary data for the photovoltaic industry in the United States. Data include manufacturing, imports, and exports of modules in the United States and its territories. Summary data include volumes in peak kilowatts and average prices. Where possible, imports and exports are listed by country, and shipments to the United States are listed by state.

France Country Analysis Brief

(Fri, 13 Oct 2023) In 2023, France nationalized its largest electrical utility company and increased its liquefied natural gas import capacity with its first floating storage regasification unit. France also has extended the operation of its two coal plants until 2024 to avoid energy shortages.
